Brick Calculator
To calculate the amount of bricks per m2 required for the building of a brick wall, first we must decide if it is a Single brick wall or a Double brick wall.
Use the following brick calculator example to work out how many bricks are required for your project.
Assume we have measured the building plans and calculated 100 square meters of brick wall needed for this project.
**m2/sqm = square metre
**sqmm = square mm's
We know the Size of the bricks to be used to be 220mm +5mm mortar x 80mm + 5mm mortar total square area of a single brick = 0.019125 square mm's per brick and mortar surface area included.
(mortar thickness is not usually included in the brick quantity calculations on small projects but can be make a huge difference on larger projects, this is purely to create the understanding of doing the most accurate calculation possible. We have included the mortar areas in this exercise, also note that we have only included 2 mortar, 1x Long and 1 x Short side of the brick because the neighboring brick will cover the difference)
1 sqm (1,000 sqmm) ÷ 0.019125 sqmm per brick and mortar area =
*Single Brick Wall = 52.29 bricks per sqm rounded to 53 bricks per sqm
*Double brick wall = 104.58 bricks per sqm rounded to 105 bricks per sqm
Calculate Double brick wall:
100 sqm x 105 bricks per square meter = 10,500 bricks
add 5%-10% for delivery breakage and waste to nearest 1000 bricks = 11,550
Total bricks required Double Brick Wall
12,000 bricks required for 100 sqm's of Double Brick Wall
Calculate Single brick wall:
100 sqm x 53 bricks per square meter = 5,250
add 5%-10% for delivery breakage and waste to nearest 1000 bricks = 6,000
Total bricks required Single Brick Wall
=6,000 bricks required for 100 sqm's of Single Brick Wall
**Generally builders calculate the bricks as 55 and 110 when ordering, because we know that many are broken during delivery and man handling of bricks during transport to building areas. Usually the waste is used for infilling and other area's where possible.

Painting Calculator
This is a painting quantity estimate and the pricing will most likely differ from painting brands:
Let's assume the existing walls are internal walls and they have been previously painted.
For this example we will use a general spread rate of 10square meters per 1litre of paint per coat of paint.
1x 20Litres bucket of paint = @10sqm per Litre per single coat = 200 sqm per coat
2 coats required from one 20litre bucket of paint will provide a 2 paint coats coverage of 100 square meters.

Tiling Calculator
Assuming we have measured the room to be tiled, let's choose the size of tile we wish to lay down and calculate the required tile quantity required for this project to work out how many tiles needed per per m2
Total (sqm) square meters of room = 30sqm
Size of tiles to be used = 600mm x 600mm = 0.36sqm area covered per single tile
10 tiles tiles per box of tiles = 0.36 x 10 = 3.6 meters
Total room size 30sqm ÷ 0.36 (tile coverage) = 83.33 tiles
Waste Tiles and attic stock calculation for future use ( we recommend 10% of total tiles needed for waste as a minimum) and 2 boxes for attic stock. (Note tile manufacturers rarely manufacture the same tile exactly for life; the usual reasoning for this is the tile has been discontinued; imports have halted; they may change tile dye suppliers or improving tile design etc.) For whatever reason used; it is in our strongest opinion to always have at least 2 full boxes of tile as attic stock)
Waste + attic stock = 3 boxes of tiles
Total Tile square meters needed for this project with waste and attic stock included:
= 27 Boxes of tiles or 113 Tiles Total
Note: *We have not accounted for the tiling grout spaces between the tiles; as this gap varies from 2mm to 10mm.
**Not including this grout gap into account will not affect the tiles required or attic stock.
